Female Figure

Female Figure Porcelain fired clay

Sense of simplicity, calm, presence, plaster and clay is my marble.
Each in its own way recalls the presence of flowers and the eruption of vegetation around ruined architecture. Effectively, they put the cycles of life and decay of both the natural world and architectural culture in dialogue. I like to explore the strength of simplistic shapes and colors that speak to discretion, which combines a timeless perspective with subtle attitudes that form an irreverent classic signature. There is a constant editing process that extends to all aspects of my art, home and life, a search for the purest expression. Editing of unessential elements gives breath to the preserved qualities, the core spirit, and informs the curation of materials, objects, and art. Finding this core spirit, with an emphasis on natural materials, extends to “empty” or “negative” space as well, which is often as impactful as a structured area, in both interior design and sculpting. This philosophy extends to the way we move in the world, the rituals we incorporate into our daily lives. Stillness is as important as activity. For me, a connection to nature is essential, providing inspiration for art as well as balance in life. I strive to respect the honesty of materials I am working with and adhere to a purity of intent in their creation. Quieter, enigmatic, and moderately sized, my sculptures can be understood in dialogue with my paintings, as a medium in which I reflect on and explore related themes, motifs, images, gestures, and effects in a three-dimensional space. There’s often a familiarity between the surfaces of my paintings and sculptures, but the sculptures also have their own character.
